Local seed origin zones - UK
The local seed zones used in our database are taken from the Forestry Authority Practice Note FCPN8, titled: 'Using Local Stock for Planting Native Trees and Shrubs'. You can download a copy of this note from http://www.forestry.gov.uk/website/PDF.nsf/pdf/fcpn8.pdf/$FILE/fcpn8.pdf Adobe Acrobat format, although the file is 4.4MB and takes a while to download. A better option is to order a free paper copy of the publication

Caledonian Pine Bio-Regions
The Caledonain Pinewood inventory classifies the 'natural' Scots Pine distribution in Scotland into bio-chemical regions. These regions are marked on the above map.
A copy of the inventory can be obtained free on disk from the Forestry Authority by emailing: liz.kirk@forestry.gsi.gov.uk
Please state whether you have Microsoft Access database software, if you don't, you can get a run-time version of the inventory on four disks. |
